Chinese Lion Dance in Rockville, MD
Rockville is Montgomery County's seat and one of the largest Chinese-American communities in the Washington region, which makes it one of the places we perform most. The Rockville Pike corridor, from Twinbrook through the Pike District to Rockville Town Square, is lined with Chinese and pan-Asian restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and family businesses, many of which have welcomed our lions on their opening day or on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Events and venues we perform for in Rockville
In Rockville we are booked for restaurant and retail grand openings on the Pike and in the Town Center, for Lunar New Year celebrations organized by churches, schools and Chinese community associations, for wedding banquets at hotels and larger Chinese restaurants, and for corporate events at the biotechnology and government-contracting firms clustered along I-270 and in King Farm and Fallsgrove. Rockville Town Square's plaza and the surrounding civic buildings also host public cultural events where a lion dance draws a crowd.
Neighborhoods and districts we know well: Rockville Town Square, Rockville Pike (MD-355), Twinbrook, Pike District and North Bethesda, King Farm, Fallsgrove, Wintergreen and Congressional Plaza.
Lion dance and Rockville’s community
Montgomery County has one of the highest concentrations of Chinese-American residents on the East Coast, and Rockville is its center of gravity. Lunar New Year here is celebrated at home, in restaurants and in community halls, and families who grew up with lions visiting their parents' shop now book them for their own businesses and children's schools. Our school has served this community since Grandmaster Sifu Tai Yim opened his first Hung Fut school in nearby Wheaton in 1979, and many of our performers grew up in Rockville.
Getting the lion to Rockville
Rockville is a short drive from our school via Connecticut Avenue and Veirs Mill Road or Rockville Pike (MD-355), so we can accommodate tight windows and short performances between other bookings. Strip-center openings on the Pike usually have plenty of parking; Town Center and Pike District venues may need a loading plan for the drum, which we coordinate with the host. Outdoor performances on city property may need a permit from the City of Rockville.

How early should a Rockville restaurant book a Lunar New Year lion dance?
Reserve as soon as your date is set. Rockville's restaurant corridor is one of the busiest areas we serve during the New Year period, and the first day of the new year and the following weekend are booked earliest. Outside the holiday, most Rockville grand openings can be arranged with a few weeks' notice, though popular Saturdays go quickly.
Do you perform at Rockville schools and community events?
Yes. We perform at elementary and secondary schools, Chinese language schools, churches and community-association celebrations throughout Rockville and Montgomery County. School performances usually include a short explanation of the lion, the instruments and the meaning of the dance so students understand what they are watching.
